Why We Quote Fixed Prices (And You Should Ask For Them)
Hourly billing aligns incentives badly. The longer the work takes, the more your agency earns — and they're the only ones who can tell you how long it takes.
Fixed pricing flips the relationship. Scope is agreed upfront. If the work takes longer, that's our problem to solve, not your invoice to absorb.
Three lessons we've learned shipping 200+ fixed-price engagements:
- Scope ruthlessly. What's in, what's out. Document the boundaries.
- Buffer for revisions. Two rounds is usually right; unlimited rounds is a death wish.
- Track time anyway. Even on fixed-price work — so you know if your pricing is sustainable.
Ask your next agency for a fixed quote. If they refuse outright, that's the answer.
